Susan reminded me of the volcano ash that put a blight on Byron's and the Shelleys' visit to Lake Geneva in 1816. She said they didn't know it was the volcano ash that caused the uncharacteristic darkness, but in my second chapter I have Percy referring to the event. Wikipedia says no one knew what caused it.
