In drawings and with heart and wit, Maira Kalman describes her recent visit to Monticello, the beloved home of Thomas Jefferson. Here, he is depicted as one of the writers of the Declaration of Independence.It happens that the novel Tristram Shandy--which I am reading right now through Daily Lit--by Laurence Sterne, was one of the favorites of Thomas and his wife Martha. As she lay dying at the age of 34, they wrote out the words of this passage from the book, Time Wastes Too Fast:
