Seth Grodin has an excellent rant about textbooks. They are useful for getting you through only one course, badly, and yet they are without a doubt the most expensive books in your library.
Enough.
Teachers, write your own textbooks, put them on PDF, a website, or kindle. Write them in Google Docs and then publish them. Your book will always be up-to-date, your students will love you, you can incorporate your syllabus into the book, you can link to multimedia, slideshows, quizzes, etc.
Thank you, Seth.
